Do you remember The Seasons Hunt? Last autumn we enjoyed the final edition of the hunt but this winter you will hear again about 'the seasons family' ;) Hallie invited The Seasons Hunt designers to a new event which is even more fun: The Seasons Gatcha!

The Winter Seasons Gatcha runs January 14th-28th. You will find many gatcha machines at event location, all stuffed with awesomely cute items! [MAGIC NOOK] is (of course) participating in the event (how could I not!) and so I prepared hot water bottles gatcha for you. Each bottle is scripted with easy menu, allowing you to select holding animation and toggle hot steam on/off. It's a cute accessory to stay warm this winter!

The gatcha is only 35L$ per play and the items are transferable, so you can trade them with friends! Have lots of fun with event gatchas! ^^

Newbie Style Challenge II

Gogo announced Newbie Style Challenge II - another round of her very popular challenge from last year. The rules are the same (see Gogo's post for full guidelines) but this time the spending limit has been raised to 550L$.

I came across this cute freebie when I was exploring SL8B sims. It's called 'Artists prim kit' and it presents prims we use every day in SL. The side of the box says:

Basic prim kit for artists in Second Life. Just add technique, emotion & originality.

I think it can serve as a really adorable piece of decoration for designers' workshops. Unfortunately I don't have that many spare prims on my parcel (yet I had to pick it up), but maybe you do :) Collect yours while SL8B exhibits are still there!

I made some sculpted vine to save prims on my parcel, and I decided to release it, so you can enjoy it too! It let me reduce 35 prims of vines that I used before to only 4 prims!

Bring summer to your garden with these vivid green vines climbing the fence, the porch or the buildings. Summer vine comes in a variety of 1-prim sculpted shapes in the package to fit your pixel gardening needs and help you save prims.

New release: Spring Skybox

Spring edition of my skybox is finally here! Sunny window, pastel curtains and sakura flowers everywhere - it must be springtime!

I'm releasing the skybox at The Dressing Room, which means you can get it cheaper (only 70L$!) for the next two weeks. Later I will place the skybox at [MAGIC NOOK] main store for regular price.

The skybox is sized about 10m x 10m x 5m and it should fit even small plots of land. It is packaged in a rezzer for easy set up. Skybox window is controlled through a scripted menu, which allows you to change inner and outer window opacity. There's also a particle emitter included with three options: sakura flowers, leaves or no particles at all, and finally there are sunlight beams, yay!

It's high time to make the layout a bit wider and refresh the looks - I didn't change the graphics ever since I started the blog in 2007 :)

I finally finished working on new versions of [MAGIC NOOK] games: Tell Me More! (both Friends and Hot Edition) and HotCube!

Just to remind you, these are multi-player social games that let people get to know each other better:

Tell Me More! Friends Edition has neutral questions (PG)
Tell Me More! Hot Edition is similar to Friends Edition, but contains one more question category: 'Hot', which is adult themed (M)
And HotCube only has hot (mature) questions (no categories)

You can test Tell Me More! Friends Edition at the store and you are more than welcome to do so ^^ The other games work exactly the same, but they have different kinds of questions, as described above. If you click the vendors in store, you will get notecards with more detailed descriptions of the games. They're fun to play! Also, if you own previous version of any of these games, please IM me - you can exchange the old game for new version for FREE.

What's new to HotCube:

Additional items in package: blanket, pillows and prop cards
New colours of particles (to match the game box design better)
Minor changes to game engine

What's new to Tell Me More!:

New release: love mugs and winter skybox

Valentine's Day is almost here, so I made some love mugs!

Mmm... delicious hot drinks with a single easy click in mug menu. You can choose tea, espresso, cappuccino, cocoa or steamed milk. The mugs are 25L$ each, or 95L$ in a fatpack of five, but for two weeks you can get the fatpack cheaper, for 50L$ only, at The Dressing Room, how cool is that? :) With the fatpack you also get a cute one-prim sculpted shabby mug rack for FREE!

There are two types of mugs - with drinks, and just empty one-prim mugs for decorating purposes! You get both types with your purchase.

I also released a winter skybox some time ago, but forgot to write about it on the blog (yay, me! :P). It's still so cold here in Poland, but I feel the spring is coming soon! But until then let's enjoy the snow :)

Beautiful frost patterns on a window, soft snow falling outside and a warm cozy place to stay - what more would you need in winter? Perhaps just a cup of hot chocolate at hand and a comfortable armchair too. Winter Skybox is inspired by snowy but sunny winter days, that make winter worth having :)

The skybox is sized about 10m x 10m x 5m and it should fit even small plots of land. It is packaged in a rezzer for easy set up. Skybox window is controlled through a scripted menu, which allows you to change inner and outer window opacity. There's also a particle snow emitter included with three options: light snow, heavy snow or no snow at all, and finally there are icicles and sunlight beams, wee!

Predictions for year 2011 in SL

I've never done any predictions like this, but this year I decided to give it a try. These are just a few thoughts of possible future of Second Life in the upcoming months.

Here's what I think:

Teens on main grid will speed up economic growth
They're young, talented, creative. It's only natural to expect they will focus on exploring SL's versatility and creative potential, and push the boundaries of what's possible in SL. I expect new milestones, comparable to the ones in the 'old times' that changed SL experience for better, like invention of AOs, skins painted on tattoo layers, and sculpted clothing.

Viewer 3 will be introduced
Either that, or by the end of 2011 there will still be a lot of people using Viewer 1.23 (if it is still supported, that is). Viewer 2 was a mistake, a very easy one to make though - with all the focus on new users and their ease of use, Linden Lab forgot about current users and their needs. I think LL realized this and most likely they are already working on a new viewer, but this time much more carefully - and hopefully there will be a lot of discussion with residents before releasing it. I also think a light viewer might be released for less computer-knowledgeable residents.

Browser viewer will be open for everyone
Open access to browser viewer and possibility of logging in with your own non-guest avatar, plus embedding locations on websites, will increase SL's popularity, the number of new registrations, user hours, user concurrency numbers and probably grid instability as well.

SL will become more mainstream
I think this year we will see a lot of movies inspired by Second Life, about Second Life or based on the idea of a virtual world. That, plus advertising (Facebook, YouTube etc.) will cause more attention from potential SL users, and investors perhaps. And with new residents entering SL community daily, press interest in Second Life will grow as well.

A better IP protection system will be introduced.
Content creators certified by Linden Lab, maybe? Easier reporting hopefully. Less paperwork. More cooperation from LL on this matter (no need to go with DMCA every single time, please!)

New CEO will prove to be a good leader for Linden Lab and Second Life
With the professional background he's got, I think Rod Humble will manage to gain residents' respect through his decisions. He seems to have a lot of passion for what he does and I think this year we might see a lot of decisions made with consideration of customers' point of view. Most likely he will still be compared to Philip, though.

Gambling in SL will be back
Oh no! But yes, I think it is going to happen, considering a few articles that appeared recently over the Internet. I just hope it will be done a different way than in the past, I don't want mainland to become a medley of casinos again. A gambling continent would be OK, I guess.

New tools for managing inventory
I expect new inventory management tools, possibly to come with Viewer 3: for textures browsing, for organizing stuff, for sculpties preview and so on.

Anton Bogdanovych will release his motion capture equipment on the consumer market
Pretty please :)

In summary I think SL will evolve a lot and change in many aspects we got used to, but it will eventually overcome problems and grow stronger on the virtual worlds market.

The Seasons Hunt Winter has started!

Yay, winter edition of The Seasons Hunt has just started! There are fantastic gifts from so many talented designers! You can refer to hunt blog for full list of participating stores.

My gift for the hunt is Sleeping Basket - always ready when you need a quick nap. And dreaming is so sweet when snow is falling outside the window!

The basket comes with sleeping animator, which will make your avatar 'sleep' - together with snoring and zZz... particles if needed. And I also included an AFK sign to be worn when seated at the basket, to make sure no one disturbs your dreams ;)

Avatars in browsers

I'm a curious avatar. However, when I heard of SL Web Viewer, my first thought was 'what for?'. But after actually trying it, I see some possible uses.

Getting to try SL in a browser wasn't as easy as it seems. When I read the beta is open, I went to http://interest.secondlife.com/beta and meh - I wasn't qualified to test it.

Luckily, I am also a very persistent avatar :) I managed to access the web viewer with a little javascript code I found on New World Notes:

It works fast. Really fast. I'm impressed with Gaikai technology. Everything rez in time, the teleports are working properly, you can chat with other avatars - just as if you were logged in a regular viewer. It does have some limitations though: you don't have your inventory, your look is limited to pre-defined avatars, you can only teleport to locations from 'Destination Guide' and your name is simply Guest.

The controls and options you have are limited - generally, the web viewer can be used to explore and chat only. But, the overall experience is fun and you have to keep in mind this is only a beta, so things might change in future. If Linden Lab will continue to pursue the idea, that is. It's interesting though: imagine embedding a location from SL on your website, so that visitors can log in to your events, meet with SL residents at your venue, and maybe register for regular Second Life if they like the experience, since SL sends a 'There's more to explore!' e-mail after each use of SL Web Viewer.

I'm certainly hoping to hear more on the topic of web based SL in future.

Designers United is a 12 day long fashion event featuring exclusively created products from a group of talented designers, based on a theme. Each designer has created items specifically for this project, and they will only be available for sale for a limited period of time. The theme chosen is "Narcissus", and the designers have interpreted this theme to make items based on the colors, textures or feelings evoked by this flower or myth.

The event is open till September 15th, so make sure you visit before that date! All items are exclusives, which means they won't be sold once the event is finished.

Little big dream

My SL dream has just come true. The one I thought I would have to wait years to happen. It is coming true as I write this sentence. I'm talking about realtime full body motion capture in Second Life. Just think about it, oh, the new horizons! Communicating with people the natural way, actually dancing in clubs, using body movement to do basically anything in SL.

You know, I was always hoping we - the people of XXI century - would strive towards more movement in front of our computers, since they are taking a huge part in nowadays life. It really makes me happy to know about this initiative. Let me show you the movie (found via Hamlet's site):

Impressive, no? Anton Bogdanovych, your work is absolutely fantastic in so many ways! I hope this project gets more attention, and by the time the software is ready to use, there will be a few companies ready to provide cheaper equipment for consumer market / personal use. This is going to be big!

My shabby chic apartment

I have this thing with interiors in SL, that whenever I start decorating, I end up with shabby chic style. I love it all - white wood, soft floral fabrics, vintage accessories... Plus, I adore all things country when it comes to home decor. No wonder this theme often sneaks in :)

I recently switched to a smaller and more cosy skybox, which I built myself, and which by the way I am going to release in my store very very very soon (update: it's released now!). And you can definitely notice shabby-chic-country-love influence in my decor. But I really like it - it's so mine and so comfy! In fact, I like it so much, that I'm going to submit it to 'Tiny, cozy space' contest organized by SL House & Garden Group.

Newbie Style Challenge

Gogo posted Newbie Style Challenge on her blog the other day. I wasn't able to blog my entry earlier because of problems with my Internet connection, and the challenge actually finished a few days ago, but I decided to give it a try anyway :) The task was to make a fashionable newbie avatar with the cost no bigger than 20L$ (see Gogo's post for full guidelines). I made a girl's look and a boy's look - my main goal was to make outfits with a sense of personality, not just random things threw in together. Everyone is a little Irish on St. Patrick's Day - and depending on how much green beer you drink, some are Irish more than others ;) You can go a little Irish too with these colourful badges! Attach them to your clothes, bags, headbands, books or any other items. Just use your imagination! :)

The badges cost only 35L$ (for all five designs)! Each badge attaches to your chest, but feel free to reattach them somewhere else or link them with other items you wear - this way you can use your attachment points for something else. Remember to make a copy of each badge before reattaching or linking, just in case.

But that's not all! What Paddy's Day party could be complete without those famous huge green hats? I redesigned my old hat (again!), made it modifiable and made it cheaper, yay! It cost 50L$ now but if you purchased the old version, you can exchange it for free! The hat has a shamrock poofer installed - just click it for easy menu! Get one and spread St. Patty's theme throughout Second Life!

It's been so hard to keep shhhh about this, expecially after posting the teaser, so I am very excited to finally announce that I am taking part in Melt - an installation on thin ice!

Artists absorb the world around them. Their environments, that which they can feel and touch and see - and that which they can't. Sometimes that which they can only dream of. They absorb it and translate it into a language that affects us all in some way.

This project is a study of translations. I presented 25 artists within Second Life with a concept of creating art with these words in mind: Drowning. Melting. Polar bears. Arctic. Culpability. Corporate greed. Inevitability. Extinction.

What they have done is breathtaking and beyond any realm of my expectations.

Quick news - the new SL viewer is out! At first I complained a lot - the dark theme is hard to read, and I felt my screen is cluttered too much. And I really want to make my local chat bar wider, cause it's way too small (yay, widescreens!). And I want a button for minimap at hand. And I want to be able to make the sidebar wider, since my inventory is there now. And a lot lot lot more... But after a bit of tweaking here and there I might get used to the new viewer. As long as I can have all the options I used in the old viewer, I'll try not to complain too much :) Because (and that convinces me the most to Viewer 2) it gives an AWESOME performance boost. Try it!

New release: chocolate box!

I know it's late to release a Valentine's Day item, but I didn't manage to finish it earlier. I completely redesigned my chocolate box - and that means new sculpties, new textures, new scripts etc. - and now it is a cute box holding an assortment of veeeeeryyy delicious sculptie chocolates :)

You can use the touch menu to select the chocolate you want. There are six types of chocolates to choose from:

Milk Chocolate With Cream Filling
White Chocolate With Strawberry Filling
Dark Chocolate With Almond Filling
White Chocolate With Coffee Filling
Milk Chocolate With Hazelnut Filling
Dark Chocolate With Marzipan Filling

The chocolates are scripted with 'eating a chocolate' animation (with mouth expression!)

You get two versions of the box with your purchase: one version to attach, with 'holding the box' animation, and another one to rez.

There is also a 3 prim version included for those of you that prefer to save on prims - it's simply a closed box, but it's fully functional, dispenses chocolates and looks nice!

I also included all the chocolates without any scripts for attaching fun. Attach them to your mouth or hands, use silly poses and take pictures (make a copy of all chocolates before doing so, just in case)!

The box cost 150L$ and is a cool way to say 'I love you' to someone (or you can secretly buy it for yourself and eat all the chocolates ;)). The bad news is that I didn't have time to put the box on Xstreet and it's no transfer, so you have to take your love to the shop. Sorry! But it's Valentine's Day and I'm off to drink some mulled wine with my other half ;)

I'm redesigning my chocolate box, been sculpting a lot and finally it's ready for texturing! I thought I will give you a little sneak peak into my Blender ^^

Better than the current version, isn't it? :) It's always amazing how the quality requirements in SL change over time - a product that once was top notch, nowadays needs changes to get its popularity back... I don't mean just sculpties - look at the way skins have changed, or clothes. Crazy!

Anyway, I hope I finish the chocolates before Valentine's Day! I'm planning to re-write the scripts as well, so now it is a good time to give me suggestions for additional functionality of this item, if you have any!

PS. Show me your Blender (or any other program you use for sculpties)! I would love to see your work in progress - so treat it as a challenge! I'm hoping for some links ;)

Something interesting has happened :) Linden Lab has acquired a Swedish company - Enemy Unknown AB - and their social networking site - Avatars United. And... everyone is happy about it! Residents are showing a lot of enthusiasm. Moreover, it seems the site has already become a hip place, within just a few days. So popular, that the '503 Service Unavailable' message shows up every once in a while because the server is overloaded. And it seems all up-to-the-minute avatars have a profile there.

I find it quite interesting, cause you know what happens usually :) Basically any move by Linden Lab is highly criticized by SL residends, whether it's fair or not. I think the upbeat reaction to this acquisition is quite remarkable and tell us a little about residents' needs. I'm curious how things will play out but this made me think about something else as well. This acquisition might be just one of many significant business decisions coming from Linden Lab in the near future. I'm not necessarily talking about other acquisitions but about decisions that will change Second Life as we know it - and I'm guessing it will be most harsh for long term residents. Something has changed - and that is the way Linden Lab look at Second Life. It's not 'our virtual world, our baby, our dear project' anymore - it's a product now. And a product should bring profit. This attitude is not bad, though - it will help Second Life stay on the market. The 'dear attitude' is good for beginnings, when the project is small... but if you don't change it fast enough, your project might fail, despite your best intentions. So I guess Linden Lab actions and residents' needs will finally meet, one day in the future.

Designers United III

I was invited to take part in the third edition of Designers United event, yay!

Designers United is a week long fashion event featuring exclusively created products from a group of talented designers, based on a theme. Each designer has created items specifically for this project, and they will only be available for sale for a limited period of time.

This time the theme is 'vaudeville', and the event starts tomorrow (28th of December) at midnight SL time. The event place is 'Le quartier des boutiques' (thank you very much Polina Kaestner).

It's amazing how the designers interpreted this month theme and created so many beautiful and inspiring items! My item for the event is Vaudeville Poker!

I also made a little cheapie neon, as it might be useful for pictures.

New release: cute mugs!

Yay, I made some cute mugs with delicious hot drinks! You can choose tea, espresso, cappuccino, cocoa or steamed milk - with a single easy click in mug menu.

There are lots of designs to choose from, each costing only 25L$! You can buy separate mugs or a fatpack for 250L$ - and with the fatpack you get a cute one-prim sculpted shabby mug rack for FREE, yay!

There are two types of mugs - with drinks, and just empty one-prim mugs for decorating purposes! You get both types with your purchase, wee! :)

The mugs are scripted with 'holding' and 'drinking' animations. They attach to right hand, but feel free to reattach them somewhere else, eg. forearm (to keep nails or rings on). Make a copy of the mug before doing so, just in case.

If you want to send the mugs as a gift to someone, just IM me! :) I'll try to list them on XStreet soon, so that the gifting is easier, but for now my stuff on XStreet is a total mess and I need to take care of that first ;)

Rebranding (kind of)

I've been thinking a lot lately about my business in SL and I decided to move all my products from Imagimations (the animations/poses store) and dell arte (the furniture and decor store) back under the Magic Nook brand. I realised it's hard and time-consuming to keep up with three brands, and it doesn't really work well for me. The shop logo went through some little changes, and I made a new shop building, yay! Come and see!

And even more changes are coming! I am in the process of redesigning all my products for better - writing new scripts, sometimes creating new textures and adding some complementary items into boxes. I'll be switching from no copy/transfer model to copy/no transfer (with gifting available through Xstreet SL) because I noticed a lot of IMs asking for my items with different permissions. I am making all these changes because I want higher quality and a better shopping experience for my customers.

It's a lot of work though, so please excuse the mess while I move things around. It may take a while, as I'm quite busy in RL, and I may also want to release some new products, so everything will be changed gradually.

The redesigned items have new vendors so you will easily recognize them this way. Two items have already been redesigned:

Magic 8-Ball

A fun, shiny, scripted Magic 8-Ball for easier decision-making ;) And a complementary Magic 8-Ball chair! And Magic 8-Ball pose prop! Male and female versions!

Personal Workout Mat

It's a fun menu-driven workout mat for all avvies that want to loose a few pixels ;) You can choose from 9 types of exercises, 11 colour textures and 3 access modes. A scripted bottle of water is included for FREE - male and female version!

If you want something from my store but it's not redesigned yet - don't wait with your purchase. Buy the item and enjoy it, and once the new version is ready, I will gladly exchange it. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

To make up for all this mess I will make a freebie available in the store very soon, for all of you to enjoy. Join my update group (click any terminal at the store), so that you don't miss the gift. It's almost ready and I think you will like it ^^ But first, I want to release two products that has been waiting in my inventory for quite a while. They will be out as soon as I make vendors for them.

Happy third rezday to me!

Wow, three years in SL and I'm still enjoying it :) I was wondering how to celebrate my rezday this year and finally decided to take the Poppins Challenge. It's a little SL tradition to jump on your rezday from the sky, naked, with an umbrella, as a symbol of 'jumping into the unknown world of Second Life'. I decided to jump in Murray region - it's the sim I rezzed in after Orientation Island and it was my home location for a long time. There's no welcome area there anymore, but it's still a place close to my avatar's pixel heart :) I covered myself in flowers (since it's PG area) and jumped!

It was kinda refreshing :)

The Corn Field

Aaaaah, finally! I've been to THE CORN FIELD! I wanted to do that ever since I learned about its existence. Quick info for those of you who never heard of it:

The Corn Field is a region of mythological status where once naughty avatars were sent to think about what they had done. "The corn field" is a vast star-lit field of corn and was cut off from communication with the rest of the world (a reference to the classic Twilight Zone episode, "It's a Good Life").

Since bad avatars are not sent to The Corn Field anymore and it stayed closed to the public, noone could actually visit it. People only knew about its existence from a single post of an avatar that was once sent there. However, it was opened for October 28-30 this year, yay! It's decorated for Halloween, but I don't mind - my curiosity is sooo satisfied :)

The Corn Field is fun to explore.

But once it gets dark, it can be quite spooky ^^

I won't spoil the fun for you, you have to go and explore yourself, but be aware that almost all the Lindens you'll meet there are zombies. Also, Mia Linden is the most scaaaarrryyyyyy. And if you have a feeling that Lexie Linden is watching and following you, but when you turn around she's not there... SHE IS FOLLOWING YOU! Have fun :)

More than a canvas, more than a train

Have you seen AM Radio's Surface build yet? There's a wheat field surrounded by green hills, and a rich countryside scenery spreads as far as the horizon. A train is standing in the middle of this rural area and the atmosphere reminds me of an old farm. It would just be a pretty location like many other in SL, if not for one cool innovative idea: you can actually paint grafitti on the train! Well, the painting itself happens on a website, but once the picture is sent to project's Flickr stream, it appears on the train in-world as well - through SL media. Creative!

Fresh logo for Snowglobe

About a month ago Linden Lab launched a contest on 99designs with the intention of finding a fresh new logo for the Snowglobe viewer. I must say I was very curious about the winning design. Reaching to the community for a product logo instead of hiring a professional may bring unexpected results - either in a positive or a negative way. 99designs is a group focused around design, but it's still risky to use online service like this, since a logo is not merely a graphic element but a part of company and product identity. It does give you an idea on how much Linden Lab appreciate the power behind a community nonetheless.

The winner was chosen and I definitely want the new logo on my desktop :) Just look at the old logo and the new one.

I like how the new one refers to Linden Lab logo, the Snowglobe itself and the primitive cube. I'm not very fond of the bold contour but I still like this design and definitely prefer the new colours. It's fresh, vivid and 'juicy', it's simple, and what's more important - it's memorable and versatile.

You can see the rest of the entries on the contest page. There were some interesting designs worth seeing. Also, take a look at the cute ones with hippos: here, here and here :) Awww... ^^ They're too complex to become logos, but they're so adorable.

Ayumi's necklace

My friend Agnieszka has made some jewellery that is named after me! Whee! :) I really like it when designers do that ^^

Ayumi's necklace is a lovely neck adornment featuring a flower with delicate strings, and polished pendants.

Two years ;)

It feels like I just posted the One year blog anniversary post, and today it's already two years. I'm really glad that after so much blogging I still have a lot of ideas to write about, and what's more important, that people find it interesting to read and comment. I love coments, so keep them coming! :)

One year ago I wrote that it would be cool to have 1000 visitors monthly - I achieved that about two weeks ago, when I published The ultimate guide to prim twisting. It was posted on the official Second Life blog (thank you, Torley!), on Massively (thank you, Tateru!) and on many personal blogs of SL residents (thank you, thank you, thank you!). It quickly brought more than 6000 unique visitors to my blog in just 14 days! That's fantastic!

I've got about 100 regular followers that I know about (there might be more, I only know of those who read my blog through Google Reader and the 'follow thingie' on Blogger). As to daily visits on the blog, after the wave of 6000 new readers that I mentioned earlier in this post, the visits stabilized at 200 unique visitors daily.
