SL'ang Life video ad :) [UPDATE]
[UPDATE: March 29, 2010] I removed all SL'ang Life links - they don't lead to SL'ang Life website anymore (since it doesn't exist), but to one you wouldn't want to go to ;)
I've just finished creating SL'ang Life video ad, check it out:
You can also watch it on Koinup if you prefer. Tell me if you like it! Send the link around the grid! :D And of course if you haven't done so yet, visit our website and subscribe, it's free :)
PS. In the ad you can notice a prototype of my speaking simulator for avatars I talked about some time ago. Let me know what you think about it :)

Hi - my friend Osprey Therian is an excellent machinimist and I'm sure she has used lip sync things too - drop her a line if you need any help :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't fully researched, but I think Osprey uses the one for on static images (such as the news anchors).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'll probably also embed it on my blog one of these days :D
Hi Daedalus - I see, I hadn'y realised that, I've seen it on the Combat Cards video and I think that was a static Av too.
ReplyDeleteAyumi, can I ask what software you use to capture and edit your films?
@hba
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've seen some Osprey's movies, and they're very good.
I capture SL vids with Fraps - it's a really cool application and isn't very expensive. And for avatar lips movement I use a little device I created inside SL. However, I probably won't be developing it anymore, since basic lipsync is coming. I've read it was introduced in RC7, but I haven't tested it yet.
@Daed
You're welcome to embed it on your blog, that would be very nice :)
Oooo - I'll embed it too - I didn't know I could do that wwith other people's stuff - I could have embedded some of Osprey's! D'oh!
ReplyDeleteI've made my first test film now - bear in mind, it is only a test so the subject is somewhat boring and the execution more than a little rough, but it's a start :)

What software did you use for editing?
ReplyDeleteAnd what format/codec did you save it in?
I'm really struggling to understand the codecs and how they affect quality, file size and playback. :)
Thanks, HeadBurro, feel free to embed it :)
ReplyDeleteSince I use various software depending on what I want to achieve, I was going to write down everything for you and send you a note in-world, but I forgot *blush*. I'm going to do that later today :) Codecs are really hard to understand... I tried thousands of them and I'm still looking for a good one (or maybe for a good setup). I'm not very happy with the quality I have. I'm also experimenting with various software, trying to find something that will fit my needs. But anyway, I'll send you a note in SL later.
I really like the camera movement in your movie. At first I thought you used the flycam! I'll need to check that "Filming Path" tool. Looks wonderful :)
I can recommend the H.264 video codec. It is widely used and has OSSM quality.
ReplyDeleteHi Daedalus - thanks for the codec tip, I'll check it out :)
ReplyDeleteHi Ayumi - I've moved on to using the SpaceNavigator. It is amazing for flying camera views and so simple to use!
In other news, watch Torley's video on new features in the 1.20 client, there's now a beta version of realtime lipsyncing to be used with Voice!
ReplyDeleteI haven't installed the 1.20 client yet but I've been playing with that lipsync in RC (it was in since RC7) and surely it's one of the most fun features recently :)
ReplyDeleteHave you installed the new client? Is it stable? I'm a bit afraid to switch, since lately I've seen some people being often thrown out of SL for no reason and I'm afraid this might be the new client.
