New release: Geek Glasses (and some other releases, and some news too!)

Tuesday, June 18, 2013 / by

I'm back to blogging after a while of absence in Second Life. My RL is quite hectic at the moment, but hectic in a positive way, and I think I've found some balance. I think I'll have more spare time to blog and to learn new things in SL. This is precisely why my releases recently might seem "simple": I'm focusing on learning mesh, especially mesh rigging, yay! And some better texturing too. I would like to move on to making mesh-only items, but this requires a lot of knowledge I don't really have. I'm trying to acquire this knowledge and I hope it will be worth the slowdown!

In the meantime I released new mesh item: Geek Glasses. They're urban glasses with a vintage feel and they will make you look smart and hip. They're scripted with frames texture change (5 colours) and lenses opacity change (5 opacity levels). Additionaly the pack includes two prop glasses (the props have arms in different positions).

Until friday you can buy them at a discounted price at The Dressing Room!

And here are all the recent releases that I didn't blog when I should have:

All of these items are available at [MAGIC NOOK] Main Store.

Happy shopping! :)

Update on things

Sunday, December 16, 2012 / by

Long time no see! My RL projects are currently taking a lot of my free time - new and awesome things are happening, but I didn't forget about SL, just focusing on other things at the moment. I felt though that it's time to update the blog with some news.

These days I've been only logging to SL to make/rez stuff for events. I didn't event advertise the items, or send review copies to anyone (*blush*). So in the next few days you may expect new review copies (if you are a blogger), a reply to your inquiry (if you are a customer) and quite a few new blog posts (if you are a reader of this blog) :)

Oh mesh!

Awww, mesh is thriving on SL market and everyone is so excited: creating new items, trying new clothes, testing new possibilities. I might be the only person in SL that is (kind of) not very enthusiastic about mesh. It's not that I don't like the benefits mesh creations bring to Second Life - I LOVE the possibilities - but it's more like I'm not ready for mesh yet.

I remember when I first heard of sculpties I disliked them so much! That time, just like today, I didn't feel I was ready. There was so much to discover about regular prims (and I'm still learning) and I had no experience with 3D graphics except a few simple renders I had created long time ago out of curiosity. It was all new and I felt it requires too much professional knowledge which I thought I wouldn't be able to gain through my favourite method of learning: trial and error.

But once sculpties were available gridwide, each time I created a primmy item I thought "Oh, sculpties would make this so much less primmy". I started experimenting with various software and finally settled with Blender 3D, which really is a fantastic and powerful program for making sculpted prims. I learned to make sculpties - through trial and error.

I love sculpties. I made a lot of sculpted items since then, I learned how to make complex sculpties in one prim, I learned to make sculpted plants, I started to make sculpted clothing items and jewellery, I learned how to bake materials and lights on sculpts... And there is still so much to learn about sculpties, so much to discover! But mesh is now available gridwide. I don't feel like I'm ready yet. But when I make items now, I think "Oh, mesh would solve this problem easily". Is it time already?

Oh mesh!

New blog template [UPDATE]

Monday, June 06, 2011 / by

In the next few hours I will be working on a new blog template, so if the blog appears messy and you can't access the content, I'm sorry. I'll try to make it as smooth as possible.

It's high time to make the layout a bit wider and refresh the looks - I didn't change the graphics ever since I started the blog in 2007 :)

If the blog is not all pretty and new in a few hours, it means I broke stuff and trying to repair ;) (not going to happen I hope! :))

[UPDATE] The new template is up, yay! I still need to do some small adjustments (widgets, pages menu etc.), but that's task for tomorrow. I hope you enjoy the new looks!

Little big dream

Wednesday, August 18, 2010 / by

My SL dream has just come true. The one I thought I would have to wait years to happen. It is coming true as I write this sentence. I'm talking about realtime full body motion capture in Second Life. Just think about it, oh, the new horizons! Communicating with people the natural way, actually dancing in clubs, using body movement to do basically anything in SL.

You know, I was always hoping we - the people of XXI century - would strive towards more movement in front of our computers, since they are taking a huge part in nowadays life. It really makes me happy to know about this initiative. Let me show you the movie (found via Hamlet's site):

Impressive, no? Anton Bogdanovych, your work is absolutely fantastic in so many ways! I hope this project gets more attention, and by the time the software is ready to use, there will be a few companies ready to provide cheaper equipment for consumer market / personal use. This is going to be big!
